Loyalty programme recommendations

Hey Bonfire Community!

We are looking at loyalty programme solutions which nicely integrate with Braze. Any experiences around partners like Open Loyalty, Antavo, Loyalty Co, Talon. One & Birdeye are very welcome :)

Pros/cons and anything in between, please feel free to share! Thank you in advance.

Cheers,
Rosa

  • From my experience, the Braze + Talon. One integration via dynamic webhooks is where it really shines. You can pass real time user context, events, cart values, tiers, and past behavior from Braze straight into Talon. One, let Talon. One evaluate all loyalty and promotion logic, and then return the outcome instantly back to Braze. Things like which reward to grant, which tier benefit applies, whether a challenge is completed, or which incentive is most relevant in that exact moment.

We had this setup implemented and were running roughly a 1.5m monthly incentive budget through the platform. There were a couple of times where we had to massively scale up and down, and Talon. One handled it without any issues. It does require some upfront engineering investment and the learning curve is not trivial, but once in place, it is extremely powerful and rock solid.

  • Check out Tallon.one if you are looking for rules based, AI Decision Studio (OfferFit) if you are looking for AI based.

  • Hey Rosa! I’ve modeled, set up, and launched multiple loyalty programs, and so far Talon. One has been my favorite, mainly because I tend to come up with some bananaland use cases 😅 and Talon has nailed every single thing I’ve needed to build.

At Scooter’s Coffee (coffee chain of about 950+ locations based in the USA, primarily in the midwest), we use Braze for orchestration/messaging and Talon. One as the decisioning + rules engine powering loyalty state and real-time outcomes.

Some examples of how we're using Talon:

-Status tiers (we have three statuses + future-state "hidden" status for the top ~1%) Talon evaluates tier eligibility/state and returns tier-up outcomes + benefits, which we then message and visualize (progress, “you’re X away,” etc.).

-Badges + gamification; We award badges/achievements for behaviors and then award for other things like firsts, streaks, feature adoption, trying new items, social share, IAM mini-games/side quests). Talon determines eligibility and returns the award so we can celebrate instantly via in-app/push.

-For our visit challenges and streak challenges, Talon powers challenge enrollment/progress/completion, and we use it to dynamically populate the active challenge + progress so the experience stays current without a bunch of brittle logic elsewhere.

-Stored value / wallet balances; Because we’re a coffee app and habitual behavior matters, we also use Talon to support dynamic balance experiences; reflecting when a user loads funds, what their available balance is, and when they spend down to zero, so we can trigger the right UX + lifecycle comms at the right moment (low balance, reload nudges, etc)

-We built a fraud layer using Braze canvas that works with our events + Talon rules to help protect reward issuance (flag/block suspicious patterns, enforce visit rules/cooldowns, prevent repeat abuse of high-value rewards). The biggest use case for this was users who were registering repeatedly to get a free welcome drink; we needed a solution that didn't require dev work ASAP and were able to get a robust solution up and running within a week using Braze/T1/Twilio - we have blocked over 1K fraudulent accounts from receiving a free welcome drink now. This is a big one actually - I would really grill the loyalty vendors you are talking to about fraud protection, don't let them downplay its importance, many loyalty providers I've worked with DO NOT have the right security measures in place to protect those recurring freebies (birthday, anni, welcome, etc.) with Braze & Talon there IS DEFINITELY a solution.

Ok so... tradeoff: there’s a learning curve + you want strong event taxonomy / ownership of “source of truth,” but once it’s in place it’s insanely flexible.

  • Hey! jumping in from Voucherify 👋

Talon kinda took over the thread fair! but fwiw, a lot of teams choose Voucherify because they get the same promo + loyalty depth without the high price tag.

Also worth saying: Braze is probably our strongest CEP partner. We’ve put a lot of work into making that integration actually good, not just “yeah it connects.”

There’s a pretty solid breakdown in the braze docs if you want to see more details on the setup: braze.com/docs/partners/ecommerce/loyalty/voucherify/voucherify

Let me know if you'd like to learn more! 😇

  • We've implemented most of the solutions you mention in your post. In term of at scale loyalty programmes, Talon One and Eagle Eye are very strong contenders in this space for real time, API event driven loyalty programmes.

I would say Talon One is more focused on real time allocation and redemption at scale, mostly via API interface and more limited in terms of their own solutions team to support implementation. That is where a partner may come in (like Composed Digital).

Eagle Eye is similar in that it is really built for massive scale, a little more customisable we have found than Talon and they do have a bigger solutions team to support your build from their own internal staff.

Antavo, we had a great experience with them in terms of the solution having a strong UI for users to interact with in creating/supporting the loyalty platform. The Braze integration was really easy, we configured attributes, events and Antavo solutions team made this fairly seamless to work with. They overall had a few more pre-built/canned loyalty events e.g. birthday reminders, point balance is X then send Y type of campaigns.

I'd encourage you to get a Braze focused demo from all your shortlisted vendors then take it from there!
