iOS 18.2 Redesign Mail App
With apple new update on categorizing, and enhancement to their email app in iOS 18.2 releasing in December.
The new Mail comes with smart categories. The app will use on-device processing to sort the user’s emails into Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. Things like receipts and order confirmations will be sorted into Transactions, newsletters and social media notifications will get sorted into Updates, whereas ads and marketing will get sorted into Promotions. There’ll also be a tab with All Mail, where you can see everything in chronological order.
What are some approaches and strategies we can take on as marketers for this iOS update?

The main thing I am focused on is mitigating really image heavy email with comprehensive Alt Text now that they have AI summaries of an email instead of Subject Lines 👀

One approach here is to send an email to users, asking them to update their preferences to ensure your emails appear in their primary inbox.

Hello trang Gmail has been categorizing promotional emails into the Promotions tab for quite some time now, effectively making it the new default inbox for marketing emails. This is where most marketing messages end up, as they are sent to customers.
Bypassing the Promotions tab is challenging, but one method involves asking customers to reply to your promotional email—a tactic that’s difficult to execute effectively.
Here’s a clever, though technically intensive, approach you can try:
Ask customers to reply to your email in exchange for a discount code.To implement this, you’ll need a system capable of automatically reading incoming emails. The system should verify if the sender (the customer) exists in your database, and if they meet the criteria, it will reply to email with the discount code.
When it comes to Push Notifications, things get even trickier because AI will generate summaries based on content shared in emails/ push body. Unfortunately, I don't have enough data to see how it is working.
