Spike in monthly active users after SDK update

Hey everyone, we have noticed a huge spike in our monthly active users after we did a web SDK update. We have isolated the channel to be web only, but are unsure what could have caused this. It's almost doubled our MAU in 2 months and we are reaching our user cap! Has anyone experienced anything similar or have suggestions on what could be causing this? Apologies for not much information, we are quite stumped

  • Hello ash_rbd  I think with this updated you have started capturing anonymous users. Check with the implementation team if this was the case earlier or not.

How would you prevent capturing anonymous users, also confirm if we are doing that.

Hello redsky  Check if there are any profiles without email address or any other identifier that you are using in the Braze instance.

You can apply the filter based on profile creation to see when these profile are created in Braze.

How does this align with your website analytics data (i.e. is your traffic up)?

How do you call the SDK (for example are you loading it in GTM and do you subject it to GDPR/CCPA data collection consent).

How did you filter the MAU to just the SDK - Don't forget any event to a user bumps the MAU's such as you changed the email targeting and are now sending to more records or you did an update to records even though they did not visit the website.

MAU includes all unique visitors seen in a month / users who see events (including anonymous).
