Setting and evolving your data strategy

What are some best practices to consider when working to set (or evolve) a data strategy for marketing?

    A good first step is to start at the highest level: what are your business goals, and how do your customer engagement efforts align with / advance these goals?

    Next, consider what data you have: where does it reside? Can the teams that need this data access it? Is this data flowing regularly into your customer engagement platform? 

    On the flip side, consider areas of improvement: If data is not flowing, who from your organization can help address these issues? What other data do you want/need to collect?

    By taking a systematic approach and working backwards, you not only can identify tangible gaps in your data pipeline or new sources of data to pursue – but have the best chance of driving alignment as you bring cross-functional partners together, as your customer engagement efforts will be tied to shared, company objectives.
