Countries with Unique Marketing Push/SMS Laws?
Hi Bonfire community!
Our company has a user base pretty much everywhere in the world and recently realized that South Korea has strict laws regarding sending Marketing Push & SMS. For instance, we need to notify the user within 14 days that their opt-out request was successfully processed, and you need to ask the user to re-opt in every 2 years.
I was wondering if other countries also have laws regarding different marketing messages and if our community could help put a list of them together. If you know of any, please comment below so we can start a thread!
Thank you! 🤗
That’s an excellent question.
Most of our customers send SMS messages to Europe and/or the United States, so I haven’t come across the specific example you mentioned. However, it’s definitely worth investigating.
I asked ChatGPT to conduct some research and transferred all the findings to a Google Doc. Although I haven’t had the chance to validate the data yet, I’ve kept all the sources that ChatGPT referenced and enabled comments so that additional notes can be added.
I believe this is a great opportunity to gather valuable insights and make them accessible to everyone who needs them.

I can't comment directly for SMS and push but for email we require different consent language for Korea, China, and Canada. Russia also has strict requirements around the types of content you can send. It would be worth reading up on these four.

Braze uses Twilio for SMS and Twilio has a lot of good resources on this subject.
